Silver eels and conger eels are the only two species eel regularly caught by UK anglers. Other species which are referred to as eels (such as eelpout and sandeel) are not true eels but are in fact fish species. While silver eels and conger eels can usually be differentiated by size – conger grow to much larger sizes.
