Flatfish

As described in the section Identifying UK Fish Species, flatfish are fish which are flat in the cross-section. The flatfish featured in this section range from the very commonly caught (dab and flounder) to the less common species which are still caught from the shore (turbot and brill). Other flatfish species found in UK waters include the topknot, which is classed on this website as Mini Species, and the megrim and witch species of flatfish which live in very deep water and are therefore classed in the Offshore and Deeper Water Species section. There is also a guide to distinguishing the most common types of flatfish from one another which is available by clicking here.
