Pulley Rig

The pulley rig is a type of rig that greatly increases the chances of successfully reeling in a hooked fish over a rocky and snaggy seabed. The design of the rig means that it works like a pulley when a fish is reeled in with the weight rising upwards (and away from snags). The picture above in Option One shows a simple and cheap pulley rig with a standard rig clip, while Option Two shows a more complicated (and expensive) pulley rig with the bait clipped down behind an impact shield and a Gemini Breaker fitted so that the weight will become detached if it becomes stuck in a snag. In the past it was common to make pulley rigs using a large swivel rather than a pulley bead. This is rare to see nowadays as using a swivel puts much more pressure on the line and using proper pulley bead creates a much safer and stronger rig.
