This is the simplest of rigs designed for the roughest of rough ground fishing. It is designed to be made with a minimum of components so that it is extremely cheap to produce and the costs do not mount up if a large number of rigs are being lost. Money is saved by getting rid of the trapped swivel and replacing it with a dropper knot. Although dropper knots are not as effective they are a lot cheaper to make. Further savings are made by not using a Gemini breaker but instead using a simple rotten bottom weak link clip. Due to the fact that this rig uses dropper knots which are not as strong as trapped swivels and rotten bottom clips which rely on gravity to cast safety no form of power casts should be performed when using this rig – only simple overhead casts should be used. It is also dangerous to use this rig in a busy or crowded area. This rig therefore works best in remote rock marks, where only simple casts are needed to put the bait into water where fish are feeding. Because simple, short-range casts are used then it is possible to leave out the neoprene/rig tubing stopknot and sequin on the snood.
Components needed to make this rig:
- Large swivel x 1
- Rotten bottom weak link clip x 1
- Size 2/0 hook x 1
- 60lb line
- 20lb snood line
- 10 – 15lb monofilament
